The 7th Silhouette short film festival

An interesting concept of concerts followed by short films… in one of Paris’ loveliest parks!

This small and sweet little festival has made its name with an original approach: in the Buttes Chaumont, one of Paris’ nicest parks, over 8 nights, treat people to a free concert and follow it up with free showings of short films. Each evening’s projections have a different theme (English-speakers might like to stick to the ‘international’ selections on the 1st, 3rd & 6th September), and the style of group changes each night too! Not sure yet whether I’ll go for Fanny & Friends (1st September) or save my energy for Neon Forest (3rd September)…

The last night of the festival, Sunday, will see a prize being given to the best French short film, judged by a jury of professionals, plus a childrens prize given by the, er, kids.

One problem tough is the weather: it can be fickle in Paris at this time of year, and Silhouette have had the brilliant idea of supplementing their programme with indoor events at the Bellevilloise (we mentioned this great venue very recently. Remember?). There will be a parallel selection of films and you’ll be even be able to meet the filmmakers themselves. Entrance is just 5 euro (the stuff in the Buttes Chaumont park is all free).

Add to the lineup a program of workshops and filmshows for kids on the Wednesdays and weekend and you’ve got a pretty interesting array of events. Let’s just hope the weather is kind to them..

The concerts start at 7.30pm at the Buttes Chaumont, followed by 2 hours of short films (with an intermission), starting at 9pm each night. Here’s the map and the addresses!
