The yacht "Tara" moored on the Seine to save the Arctic
Docked near the Alexandre III bridge after a 507-day expedition to the North Pole, the yacht Tara becomes an educative museum until 11th January 2009 in order to present the result of its scientific studies…
This 36-metre sailing-boat has travelled all over the Arctic ocean. Until the middle of next January, a spectacular exhibition – sponsored to the United Nation environmental program and the Paris city council – tells the whole scientific and human story, just near the Champs Elysées.
You will discover exactly what the twenty scientists did over the sixteen month trip through the Arctic ocean, with the exhibition presented in shipping containers placed on the quay. The double masted boat was used by 45 scientific laboratories via the Damocles programme, and the results are all exposed. With the help of photos and videos, you’ll understand the consequences of global warming, the importance of the ice caps… The exhibition is suitable for both adults and children.
Tara will also be present at the Nautic boat show from 5th – 14th December 2008, with an exhibition on the bridge that links the two main halls.
