Henri Cartier-Bresson and four other photographers
at the MEP in Paris until 14th June 2009

Photography

You have four months to see the 340 photos by Henri Cartier-Bresson, presented in celebration of the centenary of his birth, but just to months to see the work of the four other photographers on show at the same time…

The collection of Cartier-Bresson photos belonging to the MEP is based around two major themes: Paris and Europeans, the choice having been made by Cartier-Bresson for two major exhibitions in 1984 and 1997.

As well as his photos, there are guided tours, a cycle of films and a catalogue.

The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris will also be holding an Cartier-Bresson exhibition from 19th June – 13th September présente du 19 juin au 13 septembre 2009, a reconstruction of another that was held back in 1978.

By the way, the MEP exhibition will be lcosed between 15th and 24th June while the other exhibitions are changed.

Gérard Uféras – États de grâce (States of grace)

The first major exhibition of the photographer’s work, with over 100 photos taken backstage at opera houses and fashion shows

Riccardo Zippoli – Venise aux fenêtres (The windows of Venice)

The title is fairly explicit, but will it be an interesting exhibition?

François Fontaine – Statuaire (Statuary)

Two series: “The Christs of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil” (2004) and “Dreams of Statues, Paris” (2006-2007).

Lauren Van der Stockt – Our Fellow Man

Member of the Gamma agency, Laurent Van der Stockt covers most of the larger conflict for the international press. The photos shown here are of Iraq, Chechnya and Bosnia showing people whose inner selves are revealed by war, people who are capable of the worst and the best in the ultimate tragedy.

These exhibitions run until 14th June 2009 at the MEP (map here). The Cartier-Bresson exhibition continues after 25th June until 30th August 2009. The MEP is open every day from 11am – 8pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission 6.50€/3.50€. Free on Wednesdays from 5 – 8pm.
