Free outdoor film festival at La Villette,
15th July – 16th August 2009

Art and Culture

On the theme of ‘crossings’, both literal and figurative, this festival allows you to see a film every night (except Mondays) for free! Here’s the programme…

It’s a succes every year, but 2008 was a strange one for the festival: the French nation centre for cinematography decided (for some reason) to oblige them to make entrance 2 euros, saying that it was not fair on cinema owners in the area, which is just rubbish as they only show older films or poorly-distributed foreign films.

Luckily, the organisers pleaded their case and this year it’s all free again. Hurrah! If you want to rent a deckchair however, get ready to pay 6,50€ per person… Otherwise, take a blanket to sit on, another to put round you against the cold (the temperature drops quite  abit after sundown), a nice picnic, a bottle of wine, and get ready to loudly whisper ‘shhhhhhh’ to your neighbours.

On the programme this year: Broken Flowers, Brokeback Mountain, Mulholland Drive, Little Miss Sunshine, Three Funerals, Amistad, Fitzcarraldo, The New World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Into The Wild… (you can download the entire programme as a PDF file here).

And here’s the trailer for the festival!

The films are shown at nightfall (9.30pm?) every night escept Mondays.
You can join the Facebook group here or check out the official site here for more info (in French I’m afraid).
