Sound Delta Wild – iPhone meets birdsong
at the Buttes Chaumont

Remind you of the 1970s? Get ready for the strangest – and perhaps most interesting – Parisian project that we’ve heard abotu for a while: listening to nature on your iPhone…
6th July sees the official launch of  iPhone app Sound Delta Wild (free), that will allow you (without going into the details) to wander around the Buttes Chaumont park and hear different birdsong form your phone depending on your position. If you’re in a certain place, for example, just swipe your screen to see a factsheet about the bird associated with it, and hear its song! Reminds me of those relaxation tapes with nature sounds (erm, they still do them actually). And their visuals are pretty far out

Anyway, if you’re in the Buttes Chaumont on 6th July, you’ll be able tocelebrate the launch of the app with (wait for it) “a sonic composition by Rodolphe Alexis and Philip Griffiths dedicated to the ornithological fauna.” The fun starts at 6pm at the Pavillon Armand Carrel, at the main entrance to the park, opposition the town hall for the 19th arrondissement.

The project is extremely serious, “scientific, educative and artistic” (says their website). Sound Delta Wild is part of the Naturel Brut exhibition organised by the WWF, spotlighting the links between art and environmental themes. And anyway, an event that mixes an iPhone and the Parc des Buttes Chaumont can’t be bad!

For the still curious French-readers among you, the press release is below (click ‘fullscreen’ to see a little clearer).

The official site is here: www.sound-delta.net and the Facebook page here. You can download the app here.
