Goudemalion – a retrospective of the life and work of Jean-Paul Goude at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
from 11th November 2011 – 18th March 2012

The first ever Parisian retrospective for this wildly creative artist, photographer, filmmaker, image sampler and remixer with a career spanning four decades. Click on for all the info.He designed a legendary show that paraded down the Champs-Élysées to celebrate the bicentenary of the French Revolution. He’s been the photographer of the Galeries Lafayette ads for the past ten year. Grace Jones was his muse and mother to his first son. They call Jean-Paul Goude a “maker of images”; he constructs, cuts up, deforms, retouches. His style can be recognised a mile away, and yet his creations are constantly astonighing.

For this grand retrospective of his life and work, the set-up has been designed by the man himself to be much like a giant installation. You’ll see his creations, of course, but also his influences, peers, some objects, some music, photos, films. Now 70 years old, it’s about time we paid homage. Two retrospective books are already available detailing Goude’s work (with a new one due in October), and one of them contains a 27-minute documentary about the man. French-speaker can watch it below in three parts. And even if you don’t speak French, many of the images speak for themselves!

You might also like to know that if you want to stage the exhibition yourself, perhaps at home somewhere, all you need is 900m², 120.000€, and a little patience (it’s only available after April 2012). Simple!
