In 2008, almost eighty years after its original release, when all hope was lost of finding the mythical full-length version, it’s in Buenos Aires that a full copy of Metropolis was found, albeit damaged and in 16mm. The discovery nonetheless allowed a new restoration to be made so that today’s public can finally see the film as it was conceived by Fritz Lang.
Very much ahead of its time, and the inspiration for other classics such as Kubrick’s 2011 and Scott’s Blade Runner, it’s logical that the film serve as the base for an exhibition at the cinematheque. Split into six parts, the exhibition contains many original elements from the film.
And – of course – there will be many things you can spend your money on too! The film is being re-release din cinemas, and a new DVD and Blu-ray release is coming early October.
So travel back in time and see… the future! For a taste of what awaits, click here to see a close-up look at the film’s robot…
