The Paris ‘Venetian Carnival’, Saturday 10th March 2012

A Parisian experience

It’s great that residents associations organise events to liven up their areas, but this one looks very much like a tourist trap, if we’re not mistaken. Can you believe it didn’t happen in 2011 because « the year was devoted to making costumes »?

Let us marvel at the results of their 12-month sewing session…

The Paris Newsblog isn’t just here to help you choose the best of what Paris has to offer, it also has a duty to steer you away from some of the dodgier events happening in the city.

The Paris Venetian Carnival (not to be confused with the actual Paris Carnival) looks set to be as refined and cultivated as the poster they’ve designed.

The JPEG title said « proposition 7b », and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see all the others, undoubtedly such a cavalcade of colour that this more restrained version was finally chosen…It’s enough to make any respectable graphic designer throw up his lunch, and the official site is in a similar vein, with a layout reminiscent of 1994, photo galleries the size of postage stamps and a video gallery where nothing works.

The site calls the event « a waking dream », although « hot mess » would have been more succinct and precise. If you happen to be on the rue Saint-Louis en l’Île, on the Pont de l’archevêché or in square Jean XXIII – all on the Île Saint-Louis – on 10th March, you won’t be able to miss the operetta singing, make-up workshops and masks, masks, masks.

Luckily, the Île Saint-Louis has a large number of bridges that can be used for a quick exit.

The Paris ‘Venetian Carnival’ is on the Île Saint-Louis (here) on Saturday 10th March 2012 from 2.30-6pm
