Tim Burton exhibition at the Paris Cinémathèque
from 7th March – 5th August 2012

Art and Culture

With his new film Dark Shadows on the way, the, Cinémathèque is the latest venue (and the first in Europe) to host the massive Tim Burton exhibition devised by the MoMA in New York, and Tim will be in Paris especially for a signing session and masterclass!

Excentric filmmaker Tim Burton has made a slew of films that are very much his own. Since the 1980s, many of his crazy, off-kilter, memorable movies have become cult. And as the man is a bloomin’ creative genius type, an exhibition seems a great way to celebrate his film work, animation and art. Even the trailer for the Paris exhibition above is by him!The exhibition is your chance to see over 700 exhibits, including many exclusives touched by the blessed hand of Tim himself and made especially for the exhibition.

The Cinémathèque is also holding screenings of all his films, and giving him carte blanche for a selection of twenty-odd other films to regale you with. Expect quite a few monster movies, a bit of Ed Wood, one Fellini classic and a touch of Polanski.

You’ll also be able to meet artistic director and chief set dresser Rick Heinrichs, who works with Burton, and there are more conferences, a cycle of films for kids, an animation contest, a special box set release of Burton’s films on Blu-ray/DVD (in April), and above all… a visit from Tim Burton himself!

Yep, Tim will be at the Cinémathèque on Sunday 4th March from 2-4;30pm to sign his book L’Art de Tim Burton (just translated into French – how handy!), before giving a masterclass the next day at 3pm. Cool!

And Tim is still just as prolific as ever. His new film Dark Shadows is out in May (a few days earlier in France than in the USA actually), and a film that he has produced, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is coming in July (and it looks just up his street…).

A catalogue for the exhibition is also being published (14,90€)
