The official best Parisian baguette of 2013!

The verdict of the very serious annual prize has just been announced, and for the first time in six years, Paris’ best baguette does not come from a boulangerie in Montmartre, but a place not too far from our hotels!

Here’s all the info so you can go and taste one yourself.

Ridha Khadher from the Paradis du Gourmand at 156 rue Raymond Losserand (here) is the winner of the 4,000€ prize this year, and more importantly he’ll be supplying the president’s palace with bread for the next twelve months.

Winning the best baguette prize is a goldmine for a baker, and M. Khader can expect queues down the street for quite a while.

Out of the 203 baguettes handed in for the prize, 25% were eliminated immediately for being too long, short, light or heavy.

Out of the remaining 151, judged on their taste, appearance, texture, cooking and smell, baguette n° 187 by M. Khader triumphed!

If you’re walking from our hotels, it’ll take you between 30 and 45 minutes to go and pick up your own prize-winning baguette, plus a few minutes waiting in line 😉

Excellent restaurant review and food tour site parisbymouth.com has a great behind-the-scenes article to read about how the judging went. Check it out.

They are also kind enough to have created a Google map with the top ten baguettes from every year since 2008, meaning that wherever you are in town, you can test one of the best baguettes Paris has to offer!
