A great photo exhibition in a secret, super-tasty restaurant!

Here’s all the info.

Cinemas in Mali ate closing one after another because of falling ticket sales, but some of them seem to hang on for quite a while and refuse to die, despite the fact that there are very few customers.

Cécile Burban has taken a series of shots of these place that are thick with the scent of past glory, where the drinks counters are dry and the projectors are getting rusty.

These are more than just images of deserted rooms (seemingly a recurring theme in contemporary photography) – Cécile is part of a non-profit group called Villages Enchantés that projects films outdoors in West Africa, in the hope that these spaces will be brought back to life one day.

Agnès Voltz helped get the exhibition shown at the Salon du Panthéon – a great choice for an almost-secret restaurant in a hidden room above the Cinéma du Panthéon, decorated by Catherine Deneuve (you can read our report here).

The exhibition is free, and the space has to be seen to be believed (plus, it’s just two minutes from our hotels). Go! Go!
