Through documenting the 1950s, 60s and 70s America, Garry Winogrand left us with many iconic images, but he is not as well known as some of his peers perhaps because he died to early – at his passing at age 56, he has 2,500 undeveloped rolls of film, 6,500 developed roll that he had not yet looked at, and contact sheets for another 3,000 rolls that he had looked at but not developed.

And yet, it is not just the quantity of his work that is astounding – no-one photographed New York like Winogrand.

The exhibition is presented in three parts: “Down from the Bronx” with photos of New York from the 1950s to the 1970s, “It’s America I study” with shots of the same period but elsewhere than New York, and “An uncertain end” which show’s the photographer’s later work, with images of Texas, Chicago, Miami, Washington…
