Knights and bombards exhibition at the Army Museum from 7th October 2015 -26th January 2016

This new exhibition at the Army Museum at Invalides – very close to our hotels – plunges you into the heart of the great battles that marked the 15th and 16th centuries. Meet Joan of Arc, the Chevalier de Bayard and King Francis while exploring the great battles of Azincourt and Marignan.

Here’s all the info.

If you’ve never seen Louis XI’s cannon, Louis XII’s sword or François I’s armour, now’s your chance! They and a lot of other important pieces of the time are on display in the new exhibition Knights and bombards (Chevaliers et bombardes) at the Army Museum.

Laid out chronologically, the exhibition is split into three themes:

– Tactical archaisms, new techniques
– A time of reform and experiences
– The Italian wars and the successes of the French artillery

You’ll learn everything about the battle of Azincourt – a bloody part of the 100-year war – the battle of Marignan in September 1515 (500 years ago!), the birth of the modern state and the creation of siege artillery.

The exhibition caters particularly well to younger visitors, with a little character to look for during the visit, giving out information to kids in English and French. The leaflets you can download here are also bilingual.

To complete your visit, there are five concerts, four conferences, and a cycle of five films (including Monty Python’s Holy Grail!). An official catalogue is also available (272 pages, 35€ here at amazon.fr)
