Martin Scorsese exhibition at the Cinémathèque française from 14th October 2015 – 14th February 2016

The life and work of filmmaker and film-lover Martin Scorsese is the subject of a vast new exhibition at the Cinémathèque française.

Here’s all the info.
Exposition Martin Scorsese à la Cinémathèque française du 14 octobre 2015 au 14 février 2016With a long list of successful and respected films behind him, Martin Scorsese has managed to create a new style of American cinema and turn his favourite actors – Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Leonardo DiCaprio… – into stars.

Despite turning 73 soon, he remains a great defender of the cinema experience and battles to save classic movies from literally rotting away thanks to his Film Foundation.

The exhibition looks at his Italian roots and steadfastly New York character, his inspiration (such as Hitchcock), the careful crafting that goes into all his films and his hand-on involvement in cutting the films and choosing their music.

Guided visits are on offer to get an even deeper insight into the man, you can meet Scorsese himself after a screening of Taxi Driver on 14th October, there an official catalogue (216 pages, 39€ here at amazon.fr) and of course a comprenhesive retrospective of his work.

And let’s not forget the new 4-CD box set of music from his films (22€ ici chez amazon.fr), the five-season DVD box set of Boardwalk Empire for which Scorsese was executive producer (66€), a new box set of his movies with 12 DVD (86€) or 9 Blu-rays (110€) and a double DVD Voyages avec Martin Scorsese (30€) in which he talks about classic Italian and American cinema.
scorseseBut that’s not all! The whole of Paris seems to be paying homage to the man.

The 103 ad spaces in metro station Alma-Marceau are being filled with quotes from Scorsese films from 12th-18th October 2015, and there’s a huge Scorsese fresco at the Gare de Lyon, close to the exhibition, with numerous unseen photos of the man hard at work. It’s Scorsesemania!
