The Musée de l’Homme opens after 6 years of renovation with free entrance from 17th – 19th October 2015

Originally opened in 1938 but closed since 2009, the Musée de l’Homme had become run down, outdated and – with the opening of the Natural History Museum – slightly irrelevant. But now it’s back after a spectacular overhaul to help us “understand humans and their place among living creatures”.

And the first three days are free! Here’s all the info.
Ouverture du Musée de l'Homme et trois jours de gratuité du 17 au 19 octobre 2015 After a 6-year renovation, the new Musée de l’Homme is a brand new type of cultural and scientific project based around three questions –

– Who are we?
– Where do we come from?
– Where are we going?

Form the orignal “Old man of Cro-Magnon” skull (and Descartes’) to extraordinary 19th century busts, the new museum places right at the heart of biology, philosophy, anthropology and history, and includes the impressive “Gallery of man”, the museum’s biggest space with 2,500m² spread over two floors and a mezzanine.

Indeed, visitors may well be distracted by the building itself. Perched on the hill above the Eiffel Tower, it has been gutted and reconstructed inside, and the monumental glass roof completely renovated.

In order to fulfil its promise of being a different kind of museum, new kinds of visit are on offer, including a sensorial visit for those with reduced vision, and ‘mediators’ are on hand to answer questions or explain an object or subject.

They even promise you can shake hands with a chimpanzee! We’ll be going to test the place ourselves very soon…

The Musée de l’Homme (here) is open every day except Tuesdays from 10am – 6pm (9pm Wednesdays). Closed 1st January and 25th December

Admission: 10€ / 8€
