The parades for Chinese New Year 2016 in Paris

The year of the fire monkey has just started, and while celebrations have been going on since the beginning of the month, the most impressive spectacle has to be the dragon parades in the streets of Paris.

And as it happens, the biggest street parade (200,000 spectators) is in the 13th arrondissement, not very far from our hotels!

Here’s all the info.

The French government’s prolongation of the state of emergency may not affect your stay in paris very much, but it is causing problems for large-scale outdoor events, including those organised for the Chinese New Year.

The parade in the Marais that was supposed to happen on Saturday 13th February has been cancelled for example, but the one in the 20th arrondissement on the same day seems to be taking place nonetheless.

It only a quick tour around place Gambetta, starting at 10.30am and ‘symbolising the opening of the dragon’s eye’, but if your at Père Lachaise it’s just nearby…

The other event, also still waiting for police authorisation, is the giant parade in the 13th arrondissement which is due to happen on Sunday 14th February 2016 starting at 1pm.

It’s a huge event with so many people watching that they come sometimes completely obscure the view, but if you’ve never been to the area (or to the event) it’s definitely worth the effort and there are tons of great restaurants to try out.

新年快乐!
