Paris reaches a million followers on Twitter

Paris is the first world capital to reach a million followers on Twitter, and celebrations are apparently in order – the city has created the hashtag #1MillionParis, a small time-lapse film and, wait for it, a whole website for the occasion!

Come take a look…

Paris has this image of being filled with beautiful buildings and amazing museums, but we also embrace technology. The city was one of the first to understand the importance of the social networks to inform, aid and encourage the city’s inhabitants and visitors to feel at home, sincerely, and proud to be there.

To celebrate its first million followers on Twitter, the city has created the website 1million.paris which takes you back through the timeline, back to the very first tweet in September 2009, stopping along the way to relive some of the biggest moments and explain the point of  Twitter – some people still don’t get it.

For example, you might be surprised to learn that Paris has more than double the followers of New York (which only has 443,000) and five times more than Rome (194,000)!

The 1million.paris website is very well made, translated into English, and only takes a few minutes to look through. You should go and check it out…

You can also tweet your experience of Paris using the hashtag #1MillionParis, and the best tweets will be displayed on the screens of our spiffy new internet-connected bus shelters!

And if you’re not yet a follower of the Paris Twitter account, what are you waiting for? Click here!
