Gens de la Seine – a free audiowalk for discovering Paris in the 18th century

How about this for a great project – a group in France has created a collection of 19 little stories to help you discover the history and sounds of old Paris – in English!

All you need is a smartphone and an internet connection, and you’ll be walking happily down the Seine, having fun and learning something too!

It’s called “People of the Seine”, and here’s all the info.
Gens de la SeineCreated by the CNRS, (The French National Center for Scientific Research), Gens de La Seine (The People of the Seine) is a super fun way to listen to quick stories about 18th century Paris, with additional sound effects to make you feel like you’re really there.

You’ll hear all the sounds of the city, the laughter, the fights… Back in the day, the Seine was where everyone met up, did their washing, swam and even cleaned meat for eating!
Gens de la SeineIt’s all very well done, frankly. To check out the little stories, just go to the website on your smartphone, put on your headphones and choose your story.

Each of the 19 episodes lasts around 2 minutes, and is linked to an address not far from the river. Make sure you’re in the right place for the full effect!

And of course it’s all completely free. Make sure you try it out…
