The Ganesh Festival, Sunday 28th August 2016

It’s probably the most colourful festival of the year in Paris, with Bollywood music and Indian food as an added bonus!

Here’s all the info.

For a Sunday in Paris unlike any other, we heartily recommend the Ganesh Festival. More of a parade than a festival actually, it’s now in its 21st year, and pays annual homage to the cutest of the Indian gods, Ganesh (who takes the partial form of an elephant). He’s the one who can remove the obstacles blocking your way so you can advance. Not bad, eh? 😉

Which a big, main float pulled by barefoot men, and dozens of dancers , the most spectacular part of the parade is when hundreds of coconuts are smashed on the road, spraying milk everywhere. It has to be seen to be believed!

Once the parade has passed, the shops in Little India (just to the east of Gare du Nord) often hand out free little servings of Indian food. It’s a great, generous moment that the whole family can enjoy.

The full route can be consulted at the bottom of this article.
