The Paris Garden Festival
24th & 25th September 2016

The city’s green spaces go all out for a weekend, with special events and special openings. Plus, we have the Jardin du Luxembourg and Jardin des Plantes close to our hotels. You’re spoilt for choice!

Here’s our selection.

We are so lucky to have two of Paris’ best parks near our hotels, and the Fête des Jardins (Garden Festival) is the moment to explore them in a new way.

At the Arènes de Lutèce, adults can get free gardening tips, go on guided visits, listen to talks about ‘insects and micro-fauna’, another on ‘cohabitation in gardens’, or take part in a quiz. For kids, a potting workshop is being organised, there will be a maze (yeah!) and a special game with a mysterious ‘feelings box’.

In the Jardin des Plantes there are eight different guided tours on offer for adults (the hothouses, the Alpine garden, aromatic plants, remarkable trees…), and for kids there’s a seed stall and three workshops.

The Fête des Jardins is also when certain gardens open specially for the weekend (or generally just the Sunday), like the garden belonging to the convent of the Sœurs de l’Adoration, where you can wander round the garden and visit the chapel, Sunday from 2-6pm.

At the Jardin des Grands-Explorateurs there’s a quiz about fruit and trees, while kids can take part in a potting workshop, listen to a fun presentation of the watering system, do one of two quizzes about urban agriculture and learn more about careers in gardening.

In our very favourite Jardin du Luxembourg, there are guided visits on the Sunday, and the Davioud pavilion has an exhibition of bouquets and demonstrations of how to make your own.

It’s also the honey festival in the same venue. Unfortunately, as the poster makes very clear, you won’t be able to buy any honey there ?

Another venue opening specially for the event is the garden of the Society of Mary priests with its little pond. You can visit on Sunday between 2 and 6pm.

And let’s not forget the Zadkine museum which is giving free entrance to its sweet little garden all weekend from 10am-6pm.

And that’s just a short list of the nearest events! For the full programme, just click the image below (info in French).
