Situated facing the Pantheon, in the heart of the historic 5th arrondissement of Paris, minutes form the jardin du Luxembourg, the Hotel les Dames du Panthéon is a place of calm and elegance, mixing warmth, comfort and history.
Each floor is a veritable ode to femininity, a voyage through the world of the ‘Dames’, from romantics to courtesans, singers to writers – independent, intellectual, avant-garde women…
The fifth floor of the hotel pays homage to the Signares.
Africans of mixed-race, born from the love between slaves and European colonists, from the 15th century on the Signares managed to cultivate an important economic and social role on the west coast near Senegal.
Reputed for their intoxicating beauty, they led the lives of femmes fatales, cultivating their sexuality to the extreme.
On this flor, the choic of fabrics, furniture and materials harmoniously underlines the sensuality and refinement of these ‘Mixed-race Venuses’.
The interior design of the six rooms (three Superior rooms with a balcony, two Classic rooms and one Romantic room) show two different kinds of inspiration. Some have are more influence by wax fabrics with bright colours and varied motifs, while others use more traditional ocre and brown tones.
You’ll find graphic, coloured fabrics from Sanderson, designer wooden mirrors, crocodile-style headboards, snake skin style blankets, embroidered silk medallions…
The African-inspired design continues in the toilets and bathrooms, decorated with black tiles and lizard skin-style wallpaper.
The desks, tables and luggage racks were all designed by Valérie Manoïl, the hotel’s interior designer.
The wardrobes are in harmony with the style of each room, and every detail – such as the handles – has been selected with extreme care.
Valérie Manoïl used the lives of these women as inspiration when conceiving the interior design of the rooms. “What they evoke for me, or the age that they represent, naturally guided me in my research for fabrics and materials.”
