The White Night, Saturday 7th October 2017

Art and Culture, Our favourite things

If you don’t know, the Nuit Blanche (White Night) is a one-night, annual nocturnal event now in its 16th year (which means they are celebrating their 15th anniversary!) with special arts projects all over town from 7pm until 2am.

This year, the concept is faire œuvre commune (making a collaborative piece), an idea as intriguing as the poster for the event is hideously ugly.

Here’s all the info!
La Nuit Blanche, samedi 7 octobre 2017This year, the Nuit Blanche is concentrated more on the Right Bank (the full programme can be consulted at the bottom of this article), but there are still some very interesting events you can see close to our hotels without crossing the Seine.

– At the port de Solférino (here), the Compagnie Aziadé (« militant, feminine theatre » according to their site) has a show called Les crieuses publiques happening between 8 and 10.30pm. Expect shouting.

– Along the les 3km of Quai du Musée d’Orsay (near here),  Amalia Ramanankirahina & Ilona Mikneviciute have a moving installation and performance for you called Respirez Soufflez – passers-by are asked to blow and inflate something apparently.

– At the Galerie Saint-Séverin (here), there’ s a happening by the artist Skall called Autoportrait, where he’ll be behind glass constructing a sort of exhibition about himself, made up of objects and issues from his own collection. An autoprtrait. Geddit?

– At the Saint-Séverin church (here) there’s a video installation called Colours by the collective of artists Nominoë, a 16mm immersive projection they say. Check out the film below…

– At the Collège des Bernardins (here) you’ll find a digital installation called Prazer Lazer by Gymkhana (basically, the singer Camille Merckx), with impressive lighting from Minuit Une.

And at the Institut du Monde Arabe (here) Romain Pissenem presents a lightshow called Hybride LX, described as a dynamic lighting programme that will highlight the facade’s 240 emblematic mashrabiyas that have finally been repaired (they haven’t worked for years). The show goes on until 2am!

The Institute also has free visits of its permanent and temporary exhibitions every half hour between 7 and 9pm.

The Nuit Blanche is also a thoroughly modern digital affair! You can:

– chat (in French) with Nemo, the NB’s Messenger bot here (mildly amusing)
– all the addresses of the event are on the Mapstr app (look for @Nuitblanche)
– the #nuitblanche hashtag will be all over your favourite social networks, allowing you to follow events in real time
– and of course the official website nuitblanche.paris is at your disposal for full details of the 150+ events.

P.S. If you’ll be crossing town, a partial public transport service will be working all night. Details here.

The 2017 Nuit Blanche is happening across Paris during the night of Saturday 7th October
