Columbia Orchids exhibition at the Jardin des Plantes, 6th December 2017 – 5th March 2018

Art and Culture

Inspired by the expedition of the two naturalists Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland between 1799 and 1804, the exhibition Orchidées de Colombie (Columbia Orchids) at the Jardin des Plantes dives into the archives of the Natural History Museum and comes up with some extraordinary flowers.

And it’s just minutes from our hotels! Here’s all the info.

Humboldt and Bonpland set off to explore Colombia in 1799, making numerous observations and taking a lot of notes. They also collected a huge number of plants, including many orchids.

The Natural History Museum keeps and conserves all these documents, which have now be digitised.

As part of the year of  France-Colombia, this new exhibition presented numerous orchids described and collected by the two men, and an interactive online map is available to consult – click any pin on the map to see observations made by the two naturalists, including excerpts from their notebooks and photos of the orchids found.

An out-of-the-ordinary event with some incredible flowers, very close to our hotels!
