David Goldblatt retrospective at the Pompidou Centre, 21st February – 13th May 2018

The Pompidou Centre presents the first French retrospective of the work of photographer David Goldblatt, with his most famous series and other lesser-know collections.

In all, over two hundred photos will be on show, together with around a hundred documents that have never been shown before and seven films created specially for the event.

Here’s all the details.

Bron in 1930, David Goldblatt had been photographing South Africa since the 1960s, showing its history, geography and its inhabitants.

Almost exclusively in black and white, Goldblatt shows his disapproval of the racial politics of Apartheid and the abuse committed by the current government, even if he says that for him, photography is not a weapon.

The photographer (now 87 years old!) will be present for the opening of the exhibition, and for a debate with two other artists on 21st February, from 6.30-8.30pm (available to watch live on the museum’s website and YouTube) before a signing session of the catalogue at the ground floor bookshop.

The catalogue (344 pages, 383 images, 48€) is also available here at amazon.fr.
