Paris is getting ready to welcome the biggest sporting and cultural event in the world that’s open to everyone – the 10th edition of the Gay Games!
The event aims to encourage inclusion and respect for diversity, with over 10,000 participants from 90 countries, almost 40 different sports and a host of varied cultural events.
The world of sport does not have th best reputation for accepting LGBTQI+ individuals. Luckily, the Gay Games are here to show that it’s possible to play competitive sports and be tolerant, inclusive and respectful.
The 36 sporting events are being held all over Paris (and the suburbs), with some near our hotels, like boules at the Arènes de Lutèce from 6th-9th August, and fencing at the Salle Armand Massard on 5th August.
But the programme for the Gay Games has a lot more than just sport.
There’s a long list of cultural events, with an exhibition at the Paris LGBT Centre from 5th-11th August (admission free every day from 4-8pm), hikes, a grand ball at Hôtel de Ville on 10th August, a short film festival and a selection of twenty films at the BNF (National Library), ballet on 7th August, and a lot more.
And to make sure the Gay Games are a really festive event, a lot of parties are being held, with a grand opening ceremony (and a closing ceremony too) and lots of club nights…
