To discover Vermeer, the exhibition Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting brings his work into contact with other paintings from the era, showing that he was definitely part of a network of painters who had a real niche, like a ‘new wave’ of genre painting.

It’s thanks to them that scenes from private lives became fashionable, showing men and women in orchestrated civility – a real change of style.
