Daimyō, Lords of War in Japan
at the Guimet Museum and Palais de Tokyo
15th February – 13th May 2018

The Guimet Museum is collaborating with the Palais de Tokyo for the first time ever by presenting the exhibition Daimyō, Lords of War in Japan, an exceptional collection of ceremonial armour that belonged to powerful governors in Japan between the 12th and 19th centuries.

Here’s all the info.

The Daimyō were important lords in Japan, which partly explains why they had such incredibly ornate, decorated armour.

This new exhibition shows thirty-three pieces of armour, together with sumptuous Japanese ornamentation related to Japanese warriors: helmets, weapons, fabrics…

The main section of the exhibition is to be found in the rotunda on the fourth floor of the museum, but it also extends into the permanent collections on the second and third floors with a few pieces of less well-known armour from China, Korea and India.

There’s also more to see at the Heidelbach hotel, the name of the museum’s extension (and townhouse) just a few minutes down the road.

But wait – there’s more…
