Lands of rice exhibition at the Guimet Museum until 8th October 2018

The superb Guimet Museum has just opened a photo exhibition unlike any other, with scenes of growing and preparing rice in 19th & 20th centuries in China and Japan!

The Guimet Museum’s collection of period photos contains scenes that are both unusual and fascinating. They are important historical documents.

Terres de riz (Lands of rice) contains photos of all aspects of growing rice back in the 19th and 20th centuries – essential for feeding the population – as well as porcelaine objects and even a raincoat from the era (a recent acquisition) used during the harvest.

The 91 photos on show have all been restored and framed (where necessary) and allow you to see the importance of rice-growing in eastern countries, as well as featuring some beautiful landscapes.
