700 dancers outside Hôtel de Ville, Sunday 9th September 2018

The Théâtre de la Ville and Théâtre du Châtelet have got together to present Kadamati, a contemporary dance ‘happening’ on the square in front of Hôtel de Ville with 700 amateur and professional dancers.

You shouldn’t miss it!

The event has been inpreparation since the spring – choreographer Akram Khan has created a piece called Kadamati, touching on themes of identity, migration and hope.

Aided by 1418 NOW, the British cultural programme celebrating the centenary of the Armistice, with one performance already held at the Edinburgh International Festival, Kadamati (land of clay, in bengali) is much more than your average flashmob.

The choreography has been imagined to create links between communities by celebrating life and diversity, water and earth, with a message of peace.

The 700 dancers, all from the greater Paris region, and very different social and cultural horizons, hope to create an effect of surprise and conviviality with those spectating. You can watch some short interviews with some of the dancers (in French) here → #pourquoitudanses

The show is free, and will be given three times during the afternoon at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm.

Don’t miss this extraordinary event. It’s not far from our hotels!
