The FIAC 2018, at and around the Grand Palais, 18th – 21st October

The FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain) is back for its 45th edition!

It’s the most important contemporary arts event in the Parisian calendar, with 195 galleries from 27 countries (including Greece and Peru for the first time this year) and events happening at the Grand Palais plus six other sites around Paris…
La FIAC 2018 au Grand Palais et hors les murs du 18 au 21 octobre
75,000 visitors are expected for the 2018 FIAC, centred on the Grand Palais. Seeing the nigh on 200 galleries there might be tiring enough for some, but there’s a lot more fun-slash-art waiting for you elsewhere. For example:

– a carte blanche by Rebecca Warren at the Eugène Delacroix Museum (not far from our hotels),

– around twenty large-scale works to be appreciated in the Jardin des Tuileries,

– an Elmgreen & Dragset installation called To Whom It May Concern covering place Vendôme with a hundred starfish, which is “in contrast to traditional monumental public sculptures”,

– a temporary village of architectural structures on the place de la Concorde

During the Foire, Avenue Winston Churchill which runs between the Grand and Petit Palais is pedestrianised, allowing you to cross simply and see FIAC Projets at the Petit Palais, where you’ll be able to see around thirty sculptures and installations mixed in with the museum’s permanent collection.

And if you have a little free time and energy left, FIAC Programmes has the following on offer:

performances in a number of different venues (a lot of modern dance),

conversations (svereal of which are in English, like the one with Gilbert & George),

– a selection of sixty artist films curated by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez and shown in the Cinéphémère on avenue Winston Churchill…

But wait, there’s more!

A Gallery Night is being held Thursday 18th October 2018 from 6-10pm. In the area around our hotels (Saint-Germain-des-Prés) around twenty galleries will be taking part, including three with exhibition openings that might well come with free wine and crisps. Yay!

A little more to the east, but still on the Left Bank, three other galleries will be participating around rue Louise Weiss. Check the map below for all the venues…
