The Paris Summer Canal Festival from 8th July – 27th August 2017

newsletter - eng, Our favourite things

It happens every year, but this is their tenth anniversary (congratulations!), so let’s welcome even more warmly than usual L’été du canal, literally the Summer of the Canal.

Forget the Seine that separates the Right Bank from the Left Bank (although it’s great too) – time to explore the Canal de l’Ourq that snakes through the northeast of the city and continues way out into some very interesting suburbs.

Get ready for canal cruises starting at just 1 euro, beaches, evening dances with traditional French music and so much else that’s it’s difficult to know where to start!

Let’s try though – here are all the details you need.

Exhibition Les Habitants by Elene Usdin
at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff
21st June – 13th July 2017

Art and Culture, newsletter - eng, Our favourite things, Photography

Our talented friend Elene Usdin (whose photos are part of the interior design at the Baume, Belle Juliette and each floor of the Dames du Panthéon has a new exhibition coming up with our friends at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff.

And we are happy to invite you to the gallery opening party on 21st June, with not only free bubbly but also a live concert by Les Argonautes! Yes, Les Argonautes!

Here’s all the info.

With this show, Elene Usdin proves that she is not only an excellent photographer, but that she can also handle the brush like the great classical masters.

The first pieces of her new series Les Habitants, these take the timeless style of portraiture and subvert it by hand-painting on top of each photo the hidden emotions of her teenage models.

The artist thus revolutionises a certain idea of photography – almost a cliché – that define a photo by the fact that it can be reproduced. The photos of Les Habitants are all unique creations, the fruit of long hours spent meticulously embellishing each portrait with a multitude of fantastical figures.

The exhibition is of course free, but if you have some time on the evening of the Fête de la Musique (don’t forget to go down to la Belle Juliette at some point of course) you can be part of the opening party, with a few glasses of bubbly and musical accompaniment from Les Argonautes!

The exhibition Les Habitants by Elene Usdin is at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff (here) from 21st June – 13th July 2017

Open Tuesday-Saturday, 2-6pm

Opening part 21st June 2017 from 6-9pm

Free!
