Paris as a sprawling metropolis (pt.1)
Used to quaint shots of the city with cherry blossom and the Eiffel Tower? A village of accordion players and beret-wearers? We were almost shocked by the photos we took at Montmartre last week: Paris Gotham!

Here at the blog we're taking a few days off in the lovely French countryside, but we thought we'd show you an unusual view of Paris we got the other day.
After having gone all the way up Montmartre (on a pushbike no less) a bit of zooming and cropping gave us the view you see above; instead of the beautiful Paris we know from the streets, we got the impression that it was a sprawling hellhole of metal roofs, with only Notre Dame or the Panthéon to break up the view.

Of course, it's just one view of a multi-faceted city. Paris is actually quite small and easy to get around, so don't let this photo put you off!
Here's the original photo. Much nicer... We're back proper on Monday!
