Biography
It all started when I met someone…
When I was twelve years old, Jean Marie Dandoy’s naturalist photos spurred me into taking some photos myself. The start of a long story…
Xmas 1982
My first camera, a Minolta XG1, equipped with just a 50mm lens. I taught my eye to see things, frame them. Plants, animals, perspective shots, portraits, family photos, both colour and black and white. I print my memories in 24cm x 36cm.
Summer 1985
First exhibition in Nancy at the SNVB bank, with photos of a fairground and its big, lighted stands. I try to capture the imposing beauty and fragility of these constructions that stand out in the night, and also the whirling lights, the attractions flying through space.
September 1990
I arrive in Paris to study. Photos on the theme of “Paris at night” with long exposures, streaming lights captured for an instant. The cinematic aspect fascinates me.
October 2000
“Details” exhibition about antiques sales – 17th arrondissement of Paris.
From the vague I slowly gravitate towards the particular. My sens of detail and my love of old objects attracts me to the subject of street antique sales.
July 2001
After the USA, I go to Jakarta in Indonesia, discover a different culture and use up quite a few rolls of film…
October 2002
Exhibition of raw, unmodified photos at the “Jungle Art Galerie”. Objects are reduced to textures, graphic designs that don’t show their intended use but give them and aesthetic identity – “Point of view – Photographs of Urban details” in 19 photos (60cm x 80cm laminated on aluminium).
November 2002
I take part in the collective exhibition ”Photobis” with six photos on the theme of “Little Papers” (on the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville, 1 event, reams of ripped paper. I was there to see this incredible moment).
January 2003
I voyage to Cuba – 1000 shots taken – a new way of taking photos! Everything interests me; colours on walls, the countryside, the towns. Above all, I do lots of portrait shots, I want to meet Cubans. No shots of people without their permission, I decided.
Summer 2003
I expose “Point of view – Photographs of Urban details” at the Select bar/restaurant in Montparnasse in Paris.
September 2003
Le Monde Diplomatique. My “Presse Purée” photo is used to illustrate a press article called “The Media, the guardian of social order”.
September 2003
I expose “Point of view – Photographs of Urban details” at the Café Littéraire in Nancy.
11 October 2003
I expose “In an Instant”, inspired by “The Blue Angel” starring Marlene Dietrich at the Arlequin cinema in Paris (6 photos blown up to 120cm x 160cm, featuring Paris and the colour blue).
Xmas 2003
I expose “Point of view – Photographs of Urban details” at the bar/restaurant
May 2004
I take part in the collective Photobis exhibition.
September - November 2004
I expose “Point of view – Photographs of Urban details” at the Longjumeau Theatre.
September 2006
Exhibition at the “Salon” in Paris.
