Brigitte Henry lives and works in Montréal. After studying photography at the Cégep (College of General and Vocational Education) in Old Montreal, she started work on her ‘Waterproof’ project of underwater portraits, which earned her numerous prestigious prizes as well as the publication of a book through editors l’Effet Pourpre. This underwater photographic study was the first step towards the concretisation of her fascination for the human body in a state of weightlessness. She modifies the different environments to change the sense of them, suggest the other dimensions contained within them or even offer a different reality. Her images have a strange, unusual quality which intrigues anyone looking at them. The ‘Waterproof’ series was presented at the French Institute in Prague in 2004, at Košice in Slovakia in 2005 and ‘off’ during the 2006 Photo Month in Paris. She has directed several music videos (Lhasa, Patrick Watson, Elsiane…) and also designed room 15c at the Carlton Arms Hotel in New York (2007).
