Room 23
Room 23 of the Hôtel de la Sorbonne sees businessmen, travellers, Parisian lovers…
I decided to show the anonymity of a forbidden couple, lovers who escape the shackles of their everyday married relationship to find a total, secret intimacy.
I wanted to turn this space into a room-mirror of their naked desires: behind their two stretched throats, they reveal themselves to each other through the reflection in the bedstead.
This image follows on from my Gorgeous! series (‘gorge’ is French for ‘throat’), 70 anonymous portraits of women’s necks. By introducing a man into the image, it gives a particular view of this work by underlining the masculine aspect of an erect female throat.
