NOVEMBER 2008 : QUENTIN CHERRIER

"A little lick"

Poor Cupid, lynched for showing
things unimaginable in this room.

And yet, his regard towards the bed
tells us a lot about what he saw whilst in this cruel position.

So let’s thanks,
this little Apollo
in our own way.

With a little lick for the one
who has seen more tongue than he has tasted.

Biography

I am Quentin Cherrier, 6… years of photography so far, which makes me – you may have worked it out – around 23 years old.

Let’s forget the usual story about how I studied media (a degree usually obtained not with honours but by the skin of one’s teeth) to get to the heart of the matter: photography. After returning from a humanitarian mission in 2005, Hugues Vassal, cofounder of the Gamma agency, allowed to show me photos with his at an exhibition of his work in Blois (my home town). After this experience, boosted by testosterone and hope, I started to get my camera out more or less anywhere and especially during numerous concerts in Paris. I worked for the Panik club nights organised by the advertising agency BETC, creating a dozen or so flyers and photographing Justice, Laurent Garnier and lots of German DJs with unpronounceable names. I also worked for the Blois “All Hands on Deck” Festival (“Tous sur le pont”) and a few penniless groups like “Les Petites Bourrettes”, “Teenage Bad Girl”, “Terry Poison”, “Marie Cherrier” and “Le Français”.
To get enough money to eat, I did a few commissions for magazines like Be Blond (specialist magazine for hairdressers) and of course every ten months I sell my soul to a couple getting married.

At the moment I’m getting together a book of concert photos and would desperately like to work for a magazine!!!
My dream job would be photographer for National Geographic, but seeing as there will be no nature left in ten years’ time, I’m thinking that war photography might be a better idea.
