JANUARY 2010: CAMILLE HERVOUET

I open my bag, close it again and get out of the unmade bed. For one night, one image or one dream. A place where the walls do not carry the sound of anything profoundly intimate and leave us free, as if on a faraway voyage. No ghosts coming out of the mirror, just the slightly cool sheets to help us sleep. A pleasant feeling of floating in surroundings that are unknown and yet familiar. The idea of staying crosses our minds. Daily life catches up with us. One sleeper follows another, opens his bag, closes it and gets out of the unmade bed.

Biography

Born in 1984, Camille Hervouet was quickly drawn to the study of photography, at the Lycée Léonard de Vinci de Montaigu and Ecole Technique de Photographie et d'Audiovisuel (ETPA) in Toulouse. She next worked as colour timer and scanner for photographer Denis Piel, then at the newspaper 20 Minutes in Paris. She currently takes on commissions and  develops her own personal projects.

The themes that interest her are landscapes, family and the home. She analyses scenes, tries to find their system of functioning, their construction, evolution, the contradictions of these geographic and intimate territories. Her reflection is also aimed at the use of photography as an object of remembrance, transmitting a story and identity, both individual and collective.

In March 2008, during her time as artist in residence at La Métive in the Creuse region of France, she continued her research of buildings and portraits, a project which evolved in 2009 into a more important series of photos, “Buildings and their inhabitants in the Vendée region”. In November  2007, she travelled to Russai, with the resulting photos (“Images of Russia”), filled with solitude, immensity and sadness, are dedicated to her grandfather. Her “Houses” series, undertaken as her end of studies work at the end of 2006, won a prize at the ETPA and went on to be shown in numerous exhibitions.
