OCTOBER 2006 : OLIVIER GOUNOT

efifel, efefil, ilefef, felefi, leffie, fileef, feleif... park

The salon of the Eiffel Park is a place with perfect coherence and unity. Warm and welcoming, it imposes its stylish difference compared with the neighbouring rooms. Slightly dimmed, the lighting is calm studied, as if it had had an age to rest in the deep creases of the leather sofas. No photo, with its parallel and perpendicular lines, can capture this total harmony. To choose just one corner would be so simplistic.

Jealous, I wanted to break up this unity, play shadow against light, break up the smooth curves of the wooden frames and imperial taffeta, challenge the volume of the four protecting walls with the sharpest of angles. Even if I can't express the beauty of the coherence by reproducing it faithfully, let me at least suggest it by showing some tiny pieces through a kaleidoscope.

Biography

Goon's photos are a dance in three steps:

initial position:
be born in Bordeaux in 1978, study computers at engineering college, work in finance, make do with a few holiday snaps.

first step back:
buy a small compact digital camera mid-2003, take shots of any old thing to see what it looks like, no real technical or artistic pretentions.

second step forward:
open a photoblog mid-2004 on http://goonblog.free.fr, get mixed up with the online community, get the bug, invest in a digital reflex camera, find out that you particularly like reflections, transparency, shadows and light.

third step to the side:
meet up with the bloggers of paris-carnet, try writing and putting the writing with photos, visit the photo competition sites and win three distinctions, one of which from photofriday.com.

The only step that does not exist yet is the big step forward towards being a professional photographer.
