More Paris museums with free entrance in 2008

A lot of Paris museums are already free (especially the ones that belong to the city rather than the state), but three more will have the entrance price removed starting 1st January 2008.

Initially for a six-month test period, 18 museums around the country, including three in Paris, will be free to get into. These include Arts et Métiers (the brilliant museum showing inventions throughout the ages), the Musée Guimet (arts from the East) and the Musée de Cluny, the medieval museum just near all our hotels.

Certain other museums that remain with paid entrance will become free one evening a week for 18-26 year olds (the Pompidou Centre on Wednesdays, the Musée d’Orsay on Thursdays, the Louvre on Fridays and quai Branly, the brand new museum near the Eiffel Tower, on Saturdays). The idea is to encourage people to visit museums more often, and from a younger age. For example, when the Paris council made its 14 museums free, visits rose by 30%.

Perhaps your future visit to Paris just got cheaper? 😉

Here’s where the museums are. Click on each to see the name.
