Les Galeries Lafayette celebrate 100 years of the bra!

Perhaps an event that you should support?… 😉

Yes, the brassiere – or bra – took over from the traditional corset exactly 100 years ago… or so they say at Galeries Lafayette. I’ve had a look on Wikipedia and they say no such thing. But hey, marketing is marketing right?

So, from 10th-24th November 2007, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann will be hosting a small exhibition of period pieces of underwear with a special fashion shows on the 15th, showcasing – no doubt – lots of chic, snugly-cupped breasts.

Special limited edition items will be on sale for the duration, but be ready to shell out up to 300 euros for the smartest pieces encrusted with Swarovski crystals. Yikes!

Festivities will be rounded off with a cocktail at the Maxim’s in the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann store in the presence of Farid Chenoune who has written a whole book about bras called Les Dessous de La Féminité which he will no doubt be signing.

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is open every day from 9.30am-7.30pm (late nights Thursday until 9pm), but closed Sundays. Métro Chaussée d’Antin-Lafayette (lines 7 & 9) or Havre Caumartin (lines 3 & 9). RER line A, Auber.
