The Paris métro – now even better

We have a great, reliable, clean, regular subway system – apart from when they’re on strike 😉 On Friday 7th December it’s improved again…

Public transport in Paris just gets better. Cleaner stations (Gare de l’Est looks great, can’t wait to see Opéra), a new tramway line a year ago, an extension of line 14 of the métro this summer, an increased number of buses and bus lanes, a ticket that now allows you to change between buses and trams within any 90-minute period (before, you have to punch a new ticket each time)…

Now another useful development has just arrived. The métro (and the buses that link with it) runs extra late at the weekends! This can be really handy if you are going out for a drink or to a restaurant. Each métro line used to be organised in such as way as to make the last train arrive at its final destination at 1.15am. This is now extended to 2.15am on Friday and Saturday nights. After 9pm there should be a train every five minutes, and after 12.30am it’s every ten minutes.

When I think of the nightmare journeys I used to have getting home in London, I’m glad to be living in Paris! And if you’re visiting the city, the saved taxi fare is obviously an incentive to drink more champagne… 😉
