Le 104 – a huge new complex for the arts in Paris

In a huge space, converted and extended 10 years after it closure as the Paris municipal undertakers buildings, the opening of the 104 (named after its address at 104 rue Aubervilliers) marks a new start for the creative arts in Paris…

The place to be on the 11th October 2008 at 2.30pm is the inauguration of the ‘104’, the giant new space that is set to put Paris back on the map as a centre for creative arts.

One of the biggest projects launched by Paris mayor Betrand Delanoë, the centre will help to foster exploration and creation in architecture, sculpture, audio, cinema, design, literature, multimedia, performance, photo, video and even art theory. A tall order? Well, nothing on this scale has been tried in Paris before, but for the moment let’s just say that anything is possible.

The cluster of buildings include 19 workshops, different performance spaces that can hold 200 or 400 people, a garden, a bookshop, a restaurant and a café, all of which you can discover on 11th October, all afternoon and late into the night with a selection of DJs.

We’ll be telling you more about it nearer the time, but mark it in your diary already. It’s an event not to be missed!
