The 2008 Fête des Jardins

As promised, we went to go and see the garden of the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Lazarist community on rue du Cherche-Midi. It just so happents that the garden lies directly behind our Hotel Ferrandi Saint Germain, an oasis of calm open to the public just one afternoon per year…

Being on time was of the utmost importance; with only four hours per year, being late would have meant waiting until September 2009!

After going through the entry we discovered a large space completely cut off from the world, with huge trees and many flower beds. The mini-greenhouse for getting plants off to a good start was sweet too…

Also, we were finally able to study up close the figures that are engraved into the hotel wall that looks onto the garden. In fact, the dates all correspond to important moments in the life of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, as his remains are in the church just next door. For example, 1633 was when the “Tuesday Conferences” started, with the clergy’s elite meeting up.
