Matisse & Rodin exhibition at the Rodin Museum in Paris
from 23rd October 2009 – 28th February 2010

Thirty years separated them, but they had much in common: this exhibition attempts to show a lesser known side of Matisse – his sculptures – and explores how Rodin inspired him.

With works lent by the musée Matisse in Nice, as well as other from public and private collections in France and around the world, the Matisse & Rodin exhibition shows the different types of interaction and relationships that two peers and masters can have.

Despite the fact that a few of Matisse’s paintings are also on show, the main aim of the exhibition is to remind us of the importance that sculpture and drawing had for Matisse à la sculpture et au dessin, just as Rodin was attached to the art of drawing, beyond his main medium of sculpture.
