Oscar Niemeyer / Brasília exhibition at the French Communist Part headquarters until 15th June 2013

The venue might sound strange, but you’d be wrong to miss this exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Brazilian capital (erm, three years few years late) and the extraordinary architecture of Oscar Niemeyer (who died last December aged 104 ans), especially as the venue is also one of Niemeyer’s masterpieces…

The exhibition is split into six parts, and set on the ground floor of the building:

– The first explorations: the Cruls Mission

– The story of the construction and creation of the new capital

– Brasilia’s historic monuments

– Homage to Juscelino Kubitschek, Oscar Niemeyer, Lucio Costa and Athos Bulcão

– A representation of the city as it is now, and

– New acquisitions

Richly illustrated with photos from the era, you’ll see the virgin countryside in/upon which the city was built, the construction of some of Niemeyer’s iconic buildings, around thirty photos of the city as it is today, a huge scale map of the city showing its very particular layout, plus a collection (rare books, stamps, drawings, postcards, models, engravings, paintings, sculptures, coins, photos, decorative items, medallions…) showing the evolutions of the city of five decades.
