After the incredible success of his series 1503 inspired by Renaissance paintings, Christian Tagliavini is back with Carte, mixing laser-cut card and Photoshopped photos to astonishing effect.

A lot of care goes into Christian Tagliavini’s work – finely-cut detail, careful composition, depth, combinations of tone and colour, all mixed with a hint of mystery, exacerbated perhaps by the choice of subject in relation to the techniques used.

For Cartes, this mystery extends even to the names of the pieces – Regina di Fiori, La Matta Rossa, L’Amante, Lo Speziale – where you can sense touches of Art Nouveau, a hint of tarot, Alice in Wonderland and an almost 3D effect.

Let’s hope he will eventually construct an entire pack of cards 😉
