The Paris Garden Festival, 21st & 22nd September 2013

There are two main garden events in Paris each year – Rendez-vous aux jardins is held in Spring, and La Fête des Jardins is in September, with a base in the jardin de Bercy, and over 150 other sites taking part.

Expect guided visits, gardening workshops, exhibitions, concerts and several gardens open specially for the event.

Here’s all the info!La Fête des Jardins le 21 et 22 septembre 2013We’re pretty lucky – near our hotels we have the Jardin de Luxembourg, Arènes de Lutèce roman ruins and gardens, the garen at the Musée de Cluny and the huge (and gorgeous) Jardin des Plantes, plus the Jardin de Bercy isn’t that far away. All of these are taking part in the Fête des Jardins, with a host of interesting special events on offer.

For example, at the Jardin des Plantes you’ll be able to visit their beehives, and the in vitro lab, both of which are usually off limits to the public.

Even better, certain places that are closed all year round will be opening specially on the Sunday, such as the garden of the Sœurs de l’Adoration convent, the Paris Catholic Institute garden and the garden of the Society of Mary (Marist) priests.

Or if you want to cross over the Seine and go up north to Montmartre, their vineyard is specially open (the harvest will be happening early October).

The Fête des Jardins is also a good chance to discover the Batobus boat service that can ferry you along the Seine, with a boat every  15 minutes. If you show them the programme for the weekend, you’ll get the special rate of 9€ which allows you to hop on and off as many times as you like all day!

The Fête des Jardins is happening in Paris on 21st & 22nd September 2013

Opening times generally 2-7pm on the Saturday and 11am-7pm Sunday (check the programme for confirmation)
