Exhibition Indigo, a journey in blue at the Forney Library until 11th April 2015

Blue is everyone’s favourite colour, right?

If so, everyone will be flocking to this new exhibition, a veritable trip around the world – Asia and Central Asia, USA, the Middle East, Africa – that shows where indigo is manufactured from plant leaves, and the clothes that are made from it down the line.
Exposition Indigo, un périple bleu à la Bibliothèque Forney jusqu'au 11 avril 2015Strangely enough, we’d never really thought about where the colour comes for our clothes. Luckily, the exhibition Indigo, un périple bleu is here to tell us all. Thanks, Bibliothèque Forney! You certainly have an eye for out-of-the-ordinary exhibitions (their last on was about the history of spoons).

With three hundred exhibits (clothes and accessories of diverse origins) you’ll understand how indigo is manufactured, its place in history (notable in clothing Napoleon’s grenadiers), the different applications depending on the country/continent, and the traditions around indigo that are slowly being lost 🙁

A catalogue of the exhibition is also available (40€ here at amazon.fr) in English and French versions.
