Footloose and car-free in Paris, 27th September 2015

We own the streets! Well, for a day at least – on Sunday 27th September 2015 a lot of Paris will be closed to traffic, allowing you to walk serenely from Bastille to the Champs Elysées and back.

Around our hotels the Mouffetard area and all of the Left Bank above boulevard Saint-Germain will also be car-free.

Here are all the details…

From 11am – 6pm on Sunday 27th September 2015, Paris will be all fresh air and sunshine (20°C!).

Of course many parts of the Left Bank are already made pedestrian areas on a Sunday (Mouffetard, Daguerre, the area to the south of the Jardin du Luxembourg, not forgetting the banks of the Seine – check out this map), but for the Journée sans voiture (day without cars) the area is extended to include:

– the Eiffel Tower and nearby,

– all of the Left Bank above boulevard Saint-Germain (a pretty vast area),

and on the other side of the Seine, the whole central part of Paris! Walking up the Champs Elysées with no cars on it will certainly be a great photo op.

Taxis will still be able enter the car-free zones, but the speed limit for the entire city is limited to 20 km/h (except on the périphérique ring road).
