Open House 2015 in Paris – we visited The Sorbonne,
the Collège de France, the Cluny Museum,
the School of Fine Arts, the French Institute and more…

I think we can proudly say that we made the most of Open House weekend this year in Paris! On the Left Bank around our hotels, there are so many beautiful things to see that it was difficult choosing where to go.

Here’s our photo report…

On the Left Bank, one of the most chic, historic neighbourhoods in Paris, the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche establishments are surrounded by historic monuments and exceptional buildings. Open House weekend is the perfect time to explore some of them that are closed the rest of the year.

We had already explored the Sorbonne University in 2010, but back then the library was being renovated and certain rooms were closed.

This time we decided to return, and weren’t disappointed. The new extended visit includes magnificent amphitheatres and the library rooms that had been closed for years…

Next, we went to the Collège de France, with its sweet courtyard, stone vaulted rooms and library where “at the request of the professors, photos are not allowed” 🙁

(We took a couple anyway before being told off)

We were able to look round the whole museum, including the Roman baths.

The museum’s next exhibition are “The Lady and the Unicorn revisited by 16 students of the Estienne School” starting 15th October 2015, and “The Merovingian Times” which starts on 19th October 2015 (more details soon).

From the 23rd floor, the view of Paris is different from the one at the top of the Tour Saint-Jacques, and you can clearly see the Pantheon, Île Saint-Louis, Jardin des Plantes, Eiffel Tower, Montmartre…

First of all, the School of Fine Arts, where we were sure the rooms were going to impress us. Their chapel has even been transformed into a sort of makeshift presentation space for ancient artworkd.

Although a little run down, it’s still impressive…
